Wow! Awesome Aaron! Now we can have fun sharing what stuff we've been reading.
I was at the Creative Team meeting today and we got on the subject of Judges and I told Greg my "Men Behaving Badly" title - and he loved it! He might even use it in a sermon sometime!
This is so awesome, Aaron!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to set it up for us!! I have to admit that I have "heard of" blogs, but would not have had the least idea how to set one up. This is going to be fun, and will help us all to stay connected throughout the week, in a really neat way. Now we have to get Beth hooked up. Thanks again, Bud!
My gosh! What can we say about Samson???? How stupid can one man be???? It's a good lesson, though, in how very vulnerable to attack, a man is in regard to his sexuality. This should be an area of extreme watchfulness for men. Women can get men to do the most outrageous things, and they fall right into it. On the upside of the story, God can use anything for His purposes, even our weaknesses. We can't use that an excuse to hang onto them, though.
I have to admit I was kind of confused as to why Samson was "God's Man" - he did seem very stupid most of the time. I mean, Delilah tricked him three times and he fell for it every single time! Good grief! She didn't even have to be sneaky. But since he killed a whole bunch of Philistines in the end, I guess it all turned out okay.
After reading 2 Cor I was reminded of the CHristmas show, because that was the scripture that Marlene gave me for a kind of "summing up" of that production, "the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so we can comfort those in any trouble." I love that we are able to do that for each other in our meetings!
That's so true! Not only is our sharing time, a time of comfort and encouragement, but it is also a "testimony" time - a time when by our verbal sharing, we are offering praise and worship to God, for all His good deeds to us!
I found today's reading even more confusing really, than Samoson's obvious lack of good sense and character. God had already told His people, in no uncertain terms "NO GRAVEN IMAGES OR ELSE!!", and then Micah not only seems to have no problem with the graven images being there, but the whole tribe is ok with it, takes the graven images along with taking Micah, and still CONQUERS their enemies! You'd think God would surely have SMOTE them!!!! :)
What I see in all that, is that 1) God's ways are beyond finding out 2) faith means we stick with it, even when we don't understand - we don't become like those who say "well, it seems contradictory, so the Bible must not be true, etc etc". We can look at these things, and sometimes be confused, and yet still know that it's ok - just because WE don't understand, doesn't mean anything. 3) often in the Bible things are just plained "recorded". The fact that they are recorded without comment (like, "and God didn't like it that they did that), doesn't mean He was ok with it. All He was doing was recording it as it happened. Not putting His stamp of approval on it. And sometimes we need to be careful, that we don't take His silence on an issue, as being the same as His approval.4) "they did that which was right in their own eyes". Sound like today?
This is amazing Aaron! What a gift to all of us. I am just so excited I can't type fast enough. I'm looking for a favor. I need the more advanced readings for the rest of the week. I have the beginners LifeJournal (very appropriate I think) and I only have 1 OT and 1 NT reading each day. I am really enjoying this and looking forward to posting again very soon. Jeff update -- managing to get through a tough week of meds -- I worked late and didn't get home until after 11 last night. God gave him the strength to help Josh with homework, dinner etc. He never lets us down!! Thanks for all the prayers. We really need to get Beth set up.
Maybe a couple of us could go to Beth's house Saturday and just scope out the situation. You know how men are! If a bunch of us women go, to take care of the problem, her husband will probably finally jump in and take care of it like she's been asking him to!! :)
If no one else answers you by tonight, I'll send you the list when I get home. Off the top of my head, I believe what I read this morning was Judges 17 and 18, Psalm 89, and 2 Corinthians 3.
Thanks for the update on Jeff!!!
Here's the LifeJournal entries for next few days:
April 4 Judges 19-21, 2 Cor 4
April 5 Ruth 1,2, Ps 53, 61, 2 Cor 5
April 6 - Ruth 3,4, Ps 64, 65, 2 Cor 6
April 7, 1 Sam 1,2, Ps 66, 2 Cor 7
April 8 1 Sam 3-5, Ps 77, 2 Cor 8
Aaron, this is AWESOM! Thanks so much for letting me know about this. (miss ONE life journal group, and you get totally out of the loop! Interesting thing is that this morning, I had just committed to change my reading schedule, so I'm right with you all everyday. This is such a wonderful journey, and I'm honored to be traveling with all of you.
Me too, Deb!!! Last week, I decided to change and do the study verses all week along woth everyone else, instead of my usual reading!
Julie, I left a copy of the verse schedule for the year, in your mailbox.
As for this morning's reading in Judges . . . oh my goodness!!! Where is a good smoting, when you need one!
Thanks so much both Marlene and Gina for the update on the readings. Debbie, I was so happy to see your post. Sorry, no feedback from me yet on today's readings. Just sitting down now to read. Love to all of you! Julie
PS very tough day for Jeff, please keep the prayers coming
I am glad that the Blog is working out so far. As we Progress we may want to start a new one each week so that we don't have to scroll down for ten minutes to get to the newest post! Thanks Dramamama (lol Gina thats awesome) for posting the readings!
Ruth 2: As Ruth gleans from the fields, Boaz offers to save her (and Naomi)from their poverty by allowing her to work alongside the harvesters. He is their "kinsman redeemer". Christ saves us from our sins, lest we live in spiritual poverty and die without hope of heaven. He is our Kinsman Redeemer!
Ruth, what a great example of selfless God centered Love. I was taken by the fact that Naomi couldn't have been much fun to be around. How revealing her state of mind, in 1:20 she renames herself "Mara" for the bitter life the Lord has shown her. I really feel this is such a great example for me on loving the "unlovely." How easy to grab ahold of a brother or sister in Christ (or family member) who is on fire for the Lord, blessed by all accounts and easy to talk to an be around. On the other hand, how difficult to embrace the disgruntled person who so desperately needs our love. I just love this story so much. It is a great reminder how much more I need to remember God's selfless Love for me and my duty to show it to others no matter what the circumstance. God truly used Ruth to reawaken the hope in Naomi's heart. What amazing blessings come from devotion and loyalty to our Amazing God!
GREAT NEWS!!! Somehow it came up in Sunday School this morning, that Beth's computer doesn't work, and after class a guy came up to her, gave her his card, and told her that he would fix it for free!!!!! Praise God!!!!
"Remembered" -Strong's Concordence: 2142. zakar, zaw-kar'; prim. root; pro. to mark (so as to be recognized), i.e. to remember; by impl. to mention; also (as denom. from 2145)to be male: - x burn [incense], x earnestly, be male, (make)mention (of), be mindful, recount, record(-er), remember, make to be remembered, bring (call, come, keep, put) to (in) remembrance, x still, think on, x well."
2145. zakar,zaw-kawr'; from 2142; prop. remembered, i.e. a male(of man or anilmals, as being the most noteworthy sex): - x him, male, man (child.-kind)."
To me,it kind of gives the idea of "taking note of", or something like that.
For Gina:
"Smote" - nakah, naw-kaw' a prim. root; to strike (lightly or severely, lit. or fig.): - beat, cast forth, clap, give [wounds], x go forward, x indeed, kill, make [slaughter], murderer, punish, slaughter, slay (-er, -ing), smite (-r,-ing), strike, be stricken, (give ) stripes, x surely, wound."
Ah ha! I remember:
I want to say something to all of you who have become a part
of the fabric of my life.
The color and texture
which you have brought into my being have become a song,
and I want to sing it forever.
There is an energy in us
which makes things happen
when the paths of other persons
touch ours and we have to be there
and let it happen.
When the time
of our particular sunset comes, our thing, our accomplishment
won't really matter a great deal.
But the clarity and care with which we have loved others
will speak with vitality
of the great gift of life
we have been for each other.
(ps: Thanks for being there for me!)
Praise -- My day with my manager went well. God is good and I praise Him for all He has done in my life. Thank you to all for covering me in prayer.
"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Cor 9:8
Debbie. I loved your entry. Thank you. May you know from the bottom of my heart the feeling is mutual. Thanks for being there.
I'm catching up today! Deb, your words are wonderful. We are will praying constantly for you as you go on your trip!
aaron, how DO we make a new posting?
LOTTA SMOTING GOING ON IN 1 SAMUEL
Gotta love God's methods! God smote the Israelites for taking the Ark into battle, and then God smote the PHilistines for stealing it! I wonder at people who say the Bible is just a bunch of stories - how could anyone make this stuff up???
I really want to know what a gold tumor looks like!
Hi Guys! Just checking this out, and wishing we were still using it!
Do you think if we click on where it says "email follow up comments to...", that it will alert us whenever someone has posted something new? I'll try it and let everyone know.
It DOES work (it even alerted me that I had just added a comment). It seems to work similar to Facebook. The entire comment was repeated in the email, and then there was a link (entitled "Post A comment") that brings you right to this spot on the Blog.
Monday, Sept 29 - All Shook Up!
I have to admit Luke 12:51 really shook me up. "Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division!" Yikes! I thought Jesus was the Prince of Peace? This is after a whole chapter of bold, scary statements. So I prayed about this, and I read a couple of other translations to get a rounder picture. This is what I wrote in my LifeJournal: "Jesus did not come to reconcile us with each other, but to reconcile us with him. The human conflicts in this world are evidence of how he shook things up. By believing in him we are forced to take a stand. We hear so much about "tolerance" in our world, but to tolerate other views is to deny Christ as surely as Peter did." This is a really tough thing for me, because I do want everyone to live in harmony and "just get along" (to quote the infamous Rodney King). But Jesus was a true revolutionary. He knew it was impossible to straddle the fence and remain balanced for very long. His dire warning of families divided reminds me of my own family, particularly my conflict with my mom over my giving up Catholicism. It is a hard thing. I know God is trying to convict me of this personally."
Excellent comments, Gina. It's like so many other things in the Word. They all "read good", but we don't take them seriously when it comes to living them out. We know it says that He is going to divide families, because of taking a stand for Him, and we even know it says that we will receive great reward in Heaven for having done so, but when it comes right down to living it, we back off from it. I think an awful lot of erroneous choices, come from a faulty view of what the word "love" means.
I loved your statement that it all has to do with restored peace with Him.
